What drew you to the field of therapy, and how did your journey as a therapist begin?
I’ve always been a strong proponent of social work and believe that mental wellness is key to living a full and meaningful life. When I was a teenager, I was fortunate to have an incredible social worker help me navigate a very challenging period. That experience left a lasting impact, and I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to helping others in a similar way. I feel fortunate to be in a profession where I can witness the positive changes therapy brings to people’s lives, which gives me a deep sense of purpose and fulfillment.
Can you describe your therapeutic approach and what clients can expect from a session with you?
My approach centers on providing a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can express themselves openly, feel heard, and receive support. I aim to empower clients by listening attentively, sharing therapeutic knowledge, and practicing tools and strategies that they can apply in their daily lives. I believe it’s important that clients not only learn these techniques but also understand why and how they work. As a feminist, I am committed to equalizing the power dynamic by ensuring clients have access to knowledge that enables them to make informed decisions about their well-being. Sessions go at a pace that is comfortable for the client and are guided by the most effective evidence-based modalities.
What therapeutic modalities do you often incorporate in your sessions, and how do they help clients in their healing journey?
I take an individualized approach to therapy, meaning that the techniques I use depend on what will best support each client. Some of the evidence-based modalities I incorporate include:
EMDR Therapy: Guides clients to process and reframe distressing memories, reducing their emotional intensity and promoting healing.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Helps clients identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT): Teaches emotional regulation and distress tolerance skills.
Trauma-Informed Mindfulness & Somatic Therapy: Encourages grounding techniques and body awareness for trauma healing.
Attachment-Based & Emotion-Focused Therapy: Helps clients develop healthier relationships and communication patterns.
I find that clients experience the most growth when psychoeducation and interventions are integrated into our sessions and then practiced between sessions. This approach empowers clients to actively participate in their healing process.
At Eras, we value authenticity and empathy. How do these values play a role in your practice?
Authenticity and empathy are at the core of my practice. I believe that clients can only feel truly supported when they know they are being listened to and understood. One of the ways I demonstrate this is by being fully present during sessions, giving clients my full attention, not interrupting, and reflecting back what they’ve shared to ensure they feel heard and validated. My therapeutic approach is client-centered so I encourage clients to guide the direction of our sessions, respecting their input and ensuring they are in control of their healing journey.
How do you ensure your practice is inclusive and culturally informed?
I strive to create a space where clients of all backgrounds feel safe, respected, and understood. To ensure my practice is culturally informed, I prioritize continuous learning about different cultures, identities, and worldviews through ongoing education, training, and self-reflection. I also recognize the importance of listening to clients and honouring their unique experiences and perspectives. This means being aware of my own biases, asking respectful and open-ended questions about their cultural context, and adapting my therapeutic approach to align with their values and needs. Inclusivity is about meeting clients where they are, both emotionally and culturally.

What advice do you have for someone who’s feeling nervous about starting therapy for the first time?
It’s completely normal to feel nervous about starting therapy, especially if it’s your first time. My advice would be to book consultations with a few therapists you think might be a good fit and ask them about their therapeutic approach, what you can expect in a session with them and any other questions you have. This will help you determine if they offer the kind of support you’re looking for. Therapy is a space for you—it’s where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment or pressure. I always encourage clients to come with an open mind and to remember that therapy is a collaborative process in which you’re in control and set the pace. It’s okay to feel uncertain or even uncomfortable at first, but just like anything else, practice equals results.
Outside of therapy, how do you take care of your own mental well-being?
Taking care of my own mental well-being is something I prioritize to ensure I can show up fully for my clients and live a life of wellness. I incorporate self-care practices into my daily routine, whether through meditation, journaling, or mindful walks in nature with my dog. Eating well and physical activity are also important for my mental health, so I enjoy lifting weights, practicing yoga and pilates, going on hikes, camping, cooking and gardening. I also love drinking herbal tea and reading. Music is another outlet I love. Whether it’s playing a record, attending a concert, writing a song or practicing on my guitar, these help me unwind and connect with my creative side. Surrounding myself with a supportive community of family, friends, and colleagues also plays an important role in maintaining my mental health. I believe self-care is integral to my overall wellness so I make it a priority to focus on my mental and physical health daily and intentionally.
What do you love most about being a therapist?
What I love most about being a therapist is witnessing the growth and transformation that happens in people’s lives. There’s something incredibly powerful about being part of someone’s journey toward healing and self-discovery. It’s humbling and fulfilling to see clients gain insight into themselves, develop new coping skills, and move toward a place of greater well-being and fulfillment. Every session is an opportunity to connect, support, and empower clients to live more fully, and that sense of purpose is what keeps me passionate about the work I do. Being able to make a positive impact, even in small ways, makes this work deeply rewarding.
